Characteristics of burdock root

Burdock root is a long black or brown root native to Europe and Asia, but now grows all over the world. It was introduced to the United States in the 1600s by English colonists. The root contains powerful antioxidants, such as phenolic acids, quercetin, and luteolin. It is rich in fiber, vitamin B6, potassium, and magnesium.

Also known as great burdock, burr, beggar's button, hardock, gobo, happy major, snake rhubarb, lappa, filzklette (German), bandana (Spanish), lappolone (Italian). The average root size of cultivated arctium lappa is about 1/2 pound, but it can weigh up to 2 pounds.
